What Does Dyslexia Affect Outside of Reading (Video)

by Rich on January 10, 2012 · 3 comments

Those struggling with symptoms associated with Dyslexia can face challenges that go beyond reading.  Our friends over at Reading Horizons have put together a quick video that talks about the other areas that are affected and what you can do to help your child or loved one with those challenges.

Please watch the short video below and check back after for a recap:

How to help guide a dyslexic child or loved one:

  • Provide 1 or 2 directions at a time
  • Provide a visual representation
  • Provide instructions multiple times
  • Ask them to repeat instructions/directions
And always remember to be patient!  Thanks for the great tips, Reading Horizons!

I am so excited to be connected with this resource. I will say though, that my daughter has a very specific and severe visual processing deficit that is NOT a language processing deficit. Is that unusual in this community? In fact her reading has improved dramatically, and she’s well above grade level now – but her math! its the same challenge over again.
